Arms assigned to Gabriel-Robert Dufour.
These arms were
adopted at Alma by the Association of the Dufour Family of America
Inc., during
the initial meeting on September 6, 1989.
"The
old Norman families had a crescent on a field
of gold and three silver stars The
two crossed swords and the knight's helmet decorate this coat of arms." Armoiries de Quetteville et de Longuerue:
This arm is a the oldest representation of coat of arms bearing the name Dufour: it is of Lyon origin. It represents three gold rooster heads, on a blue field, split in its middle by a gold stripe. Gold denotes generosity and blue shows
loyalty, honesty and splendor.
This lineage has chosen the armories that is usually attributed to Guillaume-Henri Dufour and the Dufour from Switzerland.
They are described as follow: On a blue background, the left side is silver and the right side in red. In the middle, 2 axes are crossed over a gold star (blue on this picture)
This emblem from Geneva, is assigned to
the general Guillaume-Henri Dufour,
that reduced the Swiss cantons' revolt in 1847. A gold star (in blue) and two crossed knight axes decorate the middle of the shield.
