II- Coat of Arms adopted for the ancestors :

1- Gabriel-Robert:

Arms assigned to Gabriel-Robert Dufour. These arms were adopted at Alma by the Association of the Dufour Family of America Inc., during the initial meeting on September 6, 1989.

"The old Norman families had a crescent on a field of gold and three silver stars
on a blue background at the bottom of the coat of arms, crossed by a gold chevron stripe.

The two crossed swords and the knight's helmet decorate this coat of arms."

Armoiries de Quetteville et de Longuerue:

Because Gabriel-Robert Dufour was originally from Lisieux, some kilometers from Honfleur, Calvados, we believe that the Arms of Quetteville and Longuerue could have been his arms and that they would suit him better than the one adopted by the association in 1989 as the arms of the Dufour, Barons of the French Empire. Gabriel-Robert was only a blacksmith.
The Arms of Quetteville and Longuerue were assigned to the Dufour families of Quetteville (Calvados, c. Honfleur) and adopted by Louis Dufour, abbot of Longuerue. This famous abbot lived 1652 to 1733. Born at Charlesville, d p. of the Ardennes, this scholar is the author, among others works, of the historic and geographical ''Description of the ancient and modern France'' (1719), and of another interesting work, ''Recueil de pi ces int ressantes pour servir l'Histoire de France'' (1766).

2- Claude:

This arm is a the oldest representation of coat of arms bearing the name Dufour: it is of Lyon origin.

It represents three gold rooster heads, on a blue field, split in its middle by a gold stripe.

Gold denotes generosity and blue shows loyalty, honesty and splendor.

These armorial bearings could be those of Claude Dufour. Originating in Orgelet or Lergueux, in the diocese of Besan on in Franche-Comt .

  3- Alexandre

This lineage has chosen the armories that is usually attributed to Guillaume-Henri Dufour and the Dufour from Switzerland.

They are described as follow:

On a blue background, the left side is silver and the right side in red. In the middle, 2 axes are crossed over a gold star (blue on this picture)

4- Guillaume-Henri:

This emblem from Geneva, is assigned to the general Guillaume-Henri Dufour, that reduced the Swiss cantons' revolt in 1847.

It represents the military strength: the red in the right field shows strength and the impetus; the silvery (here in grey) on the left field indicates serenity and nobility.

A gold star (in blue) and two crossed knight axes decorate the middle of the shield.
